Old, heavily disturbed, leak-affected or otherwise unsuitable insulation may need to be removed before air sealing, ventilation details or new installation can be completed properly.
Ordinary insulation removal is not the same as asbestos abatement, mould remediation, pest cleanup or biohazard work. Suspect conditions should be identified and handled by an appropriately qualified provider before material is disturbed.

Natural Resources Canada advises that some vermiculite insulation in older homes may contain asbestos. Unknown or suspect material should not be disturbed until it has been appropriately assessed.

Does all old insulation need to be removed?
No. Age alone does not determine the scope. Condition, damage, suitability and the planned work should be assessed.
Can removal and air sealing be combined?
They can be coordinated when appropriate because a clearer attic floor may improve access to leakage paths.
Do you remove vermiculite insulation?
Vermiculite and asbestos removal are not included in the ordinary insulation-removal service. Suspect material requires appropriately qualified assessment before disturbance.
What happens after a roof leak?
The leak source must be corrected first. Affected insulation can then be assessed for drying, removal and replacement.
Where does removed material go?
Handling and disposal should follow the confirmed material type, scope and applicable requirements. Specialized waste is outside an ordinary removal assumption.
